[Darkhaven Books]
Character Applying: Ushahin Dreamspinner (
dreamspinning
Business: Darkhaven Books
Type of Business: bookshop
Info: http://dreamspinning.dreamwidth.org/1235.html

Business Type: bookstore and occasional oddity-seller
Proprietor: Ushahin Dreamspinner
Location: Loki, near the border and close to the hospital.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 10am-7pm
Description: A small shop with an unassuming front, Darkhaven is exactly as full of books as the front window indicates. That is, it's packed with them, although they are all arranged quite neatly by alphabetical order and subject. He bought the store from a retiring citizen, so the assortment of books is rather motley. In short, it is a browser's paradise and possibly the bane of anyone looking for a specific book. (Hermione will be in a constant and somewhat successful battle to organize.) There is a small reading corner in the shop, basically a few old overstuffed chairs and some cushions on the floor, and Ushahin doesn't mind people coming by just to read, as long as they're careful with the books. The atmosphere of the shop is generally cozy and welcoming.
There's also a small display of Hugo's clockwork things and a sign advertising his services. As Ushahin keeps the shop, there will also be a small cache of well-kept rarities, first editions and other things (not necessarily books) not easily available in Asgard. Some of them came from the shop, but many have come from Ushahin's trips to Utgard. While the prices on the regular stock are quite reasonable, the rarities are more expensive.
In the long-term, Ushahin is going to work on making some 'friends' of only slightly questionable quality in Utgard, who will find and sell him interesting gewgaws of varying usefulness. They will purposefully not be things that break the Asgard tech level, but instead its culture level--things from places that aren't grey, where people are actively creating. None of the items themselves will be illegal in any way, but don't ask how they got there or where they came from.
Employees:
Cashier/Clerk and Organizer of Things: Hermione Granger
Cashier/Clerk and Utgard Traveling Companion: The Doctor
Cashier/Clerk and Probably Something Else: (Leah of Hel?)
Cashier/Clerk
What it says on the tin! Employees would be expected to be able to handle a cash register, and also to learn their way around the shop to locate and recommend books to customers. Other duties include shifting/organizing stock and basic cleaning. Employees willing to travel to Utgard regularly with Ushahin OR mind the shop while he's gone are a bonus.
There is one citizen employee, mostly to keep shop if the travelers skip off to something more plot relevant.

Important Appearance Note: Ushahin's actual appearance--specifically the injuries to his face--are way beyond my shoopin' abilities, so his icons will never be fully accurate! He's basically a half-elf in the Tolkien style, so he has that ethereal elf beauty thing going on, but one side of his head was caved in. One eye and one cheekbone sit sunken and lower on his face, and most of his expressions are crooked because that side of his face doesn't work as well. His sunken eye has a permanently fully dilated pupil, and he tries to keep that side of his face hidden by his hair, partially because he knows it's creepy and partially because light is painful. His hands were crushed when he was a child, and one of them is mostly useless, with twisted, arthritic-looking fingers. It's not pretend, he really can't do much with that hand. The other was healed by magic, and that arm is strong and whole. From the back, he looks normal and healthy and elfy.
